HOMEMADE WHOLE MEAL THIN CRUST BACON PIZZA

I decided to make this recipe because my son loves pizza a lot and he always ask for it. But instead of making the usual  plain flour, I created it using a whole meal flour. The reason for this is I want a good source of fibre for my son and able to help him with his digestion.

Here are some of the benefits that you can get with the whole meal flour:

One of the main advantages of whole bread is the amount of dietary fiber in it.
The fibers contribute to colon activity and health, prevent constipation and reduce colon cancer risk. They help maintain good levels of cholesterol, lipids and sugar in the blood and lead to a reduced risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and they also have anti-inflammatory properties.
In addition, the fibers contribute to a sense of satiety over time and maintain a healthy body weight.

Other benefits of whole wheat bread

  • Requires slower and healthier eating;
  • Improve mood and mental abilities due to the presence of dietary fiber and vitamins from group B;
  • Carbohydrates release more slowly, resulting in a longer concentration and alertness. 
    By comparison, a sandwich of whole wheat bread will improve concentration for an hour and a half while a chocolate cube will improve the concentration for half an hour. [1]

Luckily when I let my son try it, he loves it straight away and able to finish the whole lot. And now its time for me to share it with you. In fairness this recipe really taste good and I even like it. The ingredients are very simple and the whole process is quick and easy to make. Check out this video how to make it!

PREPARATION TIME: 10 mins        COOKING TIME: 20 mins

INGREDIENTS: 

    Dough:
  • 2 cups of whole meal flour + maybe a little extra
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of table salt
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 3/4 cup of water
    Toppings:
    Note: Just estimate the amount you gonna put. Make sure its not too much or too little. 
  • any bolognese sauce
  • shredded mozzarella cheese
  • square cut bacon - lightly fried
INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Mix all the dough ingredients. Knead until well incorporated. Cut into 2 portions.
  2. In a flat surface, flatten the dough in a circular shape until you achieve the desired thinness. 
  3. Poke the dough with the fork all over, this technique will prevent the dough forming an air pockets. 
  4. Place it in a thin pan and put it in the oven for about 10 mins. Then remove.
  5. Pour a small amount of bolognese sauce initially, increasing the volume slowly until you feel that the amount is enough to cover the whole dough.
  6. Sprinkle fair amount of shredded mozzarella on top, then add the bacon in a desired quantity.   
  7. Cook in the oven again for another 10 mins. Check if the cheese is cook just right otherwise can adjust time of cooking accordingly. 
  8. Transfer to a flat cool pan or board. Cut and serve while its hot! Enjoy!
