ST PATRICK'S DAY 2022 • AFTER TWO YEARS OF POSEPONEMENT • RATHCOOLE & SAGGART PARADE

27th March 2022, the day where every Irish people is so excited to see the extravagant parade here in Ireland. After two years of holding up this important event due to the Covid pandemic, finally this day has come for everyone to enjoy.

We decided to witness the parade locally near our place, and you will see in the faces of the people while waiting around the side streets how excited they are to witness once again this memorable occasion. Some would wear costumes, others would bring small Ireland's flag and proudly wave it into the air. 

But why do Irish people celebrate St Patrick's Day?

Just to give you a short background, it is basically a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland.*  Born in Roman Britain in the late 4th century, he was kidnapped at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave. He escaped, but returned about 432 ce to convert the Irish to Christianity.**

That is why this day is very important to Irish people and you will noticed that this day is celebrated in other parts of the world by Irish community.

Here in Rathcoole and Saggart, they have their own way of celebrating the memorable event. So nice to see how people are so vibrant and full of energy to observe this affair. Watch till the end!
