HOW TO MAKE CITRUS POTPOURRI | FRESHEN UP YOUR ROOM NATURALLY

Have  you ever experience after frying fish, pork, beef, etc. you will notice that its odor sticks to your carpet and linger to the room/s as well? If you do, I have experienced it too. Not mentioning some smells that comes out from our kitchen bins especially when not discarded overnight. Mostly of houses are close especially during winter, over a period of time this odor accumulates leaving our room smells undesirable. Since I am not a fan of commercial air fresheners, I have research how to deodorize the room naturally. And I  stumbled how to make a potpourri made from natural fruits.

Potpourri is a mixture of dried, naturally fragrant plant materials, used to provide a gentle natural scent, commonly in residential settings. It is often placed in a decorative bowl.*

In this blog, I will make a citrus scent potpourri. Lemon is one of the most popular rejuvenating scents for potpourri. Adding other citrus fruits such as oranges and  grapefruits could provide an uplifting environment and promotes a positive mood. Aside from citrus, you can also incorporate other dried fruit and leaves to add scent to your potpourri.

So here are the fruits that we needed:

  • 1 large lemon
  • 1 grape fruit
  • 1 large orange
  • 1 large apple
  • several bay leaves
  • vanilla bark (optional)

Instructions:
  1. Cut the fruits round and thinly.

  2. Using a large rack, line the cut fruits.
  3. Dry them under the heat of the sun. If the drying process is not enough, you can put it in the oven at 50 degrees celcius for a period of time until it is felt dry. ( I dried mine for roughly about 2 hours ) Always check  and turn them around regularly to prevent it from burning.

  4. Once dried, place them in a display bowl. Add bay leaves and put them on the desired area where it needs to be deodorized. Tip: You can also add essential oil if you prefer so. This will give a stronger citrus scent to your room.
This home made scent deodorizer is as easy as 1, 2, 3. Give it a go!
