VISITING LAMBERT'S FRUIT FARM FOR A FAMILY SUMMER FUN ACTIVITY

It was a fine sunny day and it's Sunday. We usually spend our time during weekend out with the family looking for the place where we could enjoy together. And today we decided to go to Lambert's Farm.

Lambert's Farm in Cruagh, just three miles from Rathfarnham in Dublin, is one of the few farms left that invites customers to pick their own fruit. With its scenic location between the Hellfire Club and Pine Forest, the farm yields a wide variety of berries including strawberries, raspberries, tayberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants and gooseberries.

Padraig Lambert and his family have been growing strawberries there for 45 years. "People arrive in, pick what they want, using baskets we have provided, and we weigh them." Providing both an ideal family outing and an assuaged conscience with the eco-friendliness of the venture, it's great value and may even prove educational. "Children find out where things grow, rather than in a supermarket." *

During our visit, the sun was striking hot and the temperature reached to 24 c. For some, this could be a perfect time to do sun bathing while picking strawberries, gooseberries and raspberries. However, for those who hate too much sun exposure, I recommend to check the weather prior coming and ensure you bring your proper gear in order to avoid disappointments.

On the entrance, you have to pay for the container that you gonna use. Then you will be directed to the picking area. There were rules that you have to follow so be aware about it. Lots of families came during our visit. Strawberries are picked from the ground. Since it is the pick of summer when we visited the place, we find it too hot to stay for long under the sun. We noticed even the leaves of strawberries are starting to dried out. So we just picked just enough and head off to the entrance again where we paid what we got. We able to pass by the gooseberries and raspberries, however, raspberries are still young to be harvested and the gooseberries are almost gone.

Weather plays an important role when it comes to this kind of activity, that is why I have advised earlier to be mindful about it in order to enjoy your visit. Otherwise, it would be a great and fun way to spend time with your family, especially with your young ones.
