SALMON STEAK

One of the most common fish here in Ireland that you can buy is Salmon. And my husband was able to get the tail part in an affordable price. My sister-in-law cooked one time a salmon steak and I really like it. So I have tried cooking it too. Actually, the ingredients are very simple and all you have to do is blend the ingredients well to have a distinctive taste. I got the basic ingredients from my sister-in-law, but I do a little bit of experiment and it turned out superb.

Have you ever wondered why salmon is so expensive?

According to Randy Harthnell, who reacted at the quora.com, wild salmon is expensive for the same reason most things are expensive -  supply exceeds demand. Rising middle classes in China and elsewhere around the world are competing for this very special food and there is only so much to go around.[9]

So you might be thinking as well what health benefits we can you get from a salmon. Healthline have outline some impressive health benefits that youR body can get from it. And these are the following: rich in omega-3-fatty acids, great source of protein, high in B vitamins, good source of potassium, loaded with selenium, contains the antioxidant astaxanthin, may reduce the risk of heart disease, may benefit from weight control, can help fight inflammation, may protect brain health and of course, it is delicious and versatile.[10]

Having said all the benefits, are all salmon healthy to eat or is there certain type that you would consider the healthiest? This question might have come across to your mind. To answer that question I have read an article from livestrong.com that there are many different types of salmon - specifically, five types of Pacific salmon and two types of Atlantic salmon. Atlantic salmon is typically farmed, while Pacific salmon species are primarily wild-caught. Wild-caught Pacific salmon are typically considered to be the healthiest salmon.[11]

What do you think guys, now you know why salmon is expensive and what is the healthiest type, more or less you got an idea what kind of salmon you are going to buy next time you visit the supermarket.

For now let's start cooking our salmon steak. And tell me your thoughts about it by leaving a comment below.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 500 g salmon
  • 2 gloves garlic - chopped tiny
  • 1 medium onion - cut into ring
  • 1 cup oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1/4 tsp black ground pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp chilli powder or chilli flakes
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 150 ml water
  • 2 tbsp of honey

INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Marinate the salmon with salt for at least 30 mins.
  2. After marinating, start frying by putting 1 cup oil in the sauce pan. Wait till the pan is hot enough prior putting the salmon. This will prevent the fish from sticking in the sauce pan.
  3. Fry until the bottom side turns to golden brown. Then turn it to the other side.
  4. Once both sides are cook. Remove from heat. Put in a plate lined with paper towel to absorb the excess oil.
  5. Using the same sauce pan, empty the old oil and put 2 tbsp of new oil. Wait till the oil is hot enough.
  6. Sauté the garlic until golden brown.
  7. Add 150 ml water and wait until it boils.
  8. Put 2 tbsp of soy sauce, 1 tbsp of fish sauce, 1/4 tsp black ground pepper, 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional),  1/4 tsp chilli powder, 2 tbsp honey and 3 tbsp lemon juice.
  9. Simmer for several minutes until the sauce lessen and slightly thicker.
  10. When the amount is almost half than the original, add the onion ring. Lower the heat to low - medium setting. Wait till the onion rings turn transparent.
  11. At this point make sure there is still enough sauce if not add a little water, then put the fried salmon. The salmon should be directly in contact with the sauce and turn on regular basis on both sides to absorb its flavor.
  12. Once the sauce was absorbed and has thickened up, removed from heat.
  13. Place it in a serving plate.
  14. Now your salmon steak is ready to eat! It is best served with steam rice.. ENJOY !!!
