DINOSAUR PASTILLAS CUPCAKE RECIPE

Since my kids love pastillas, we made another recipe out of this milk based candy. We saw a design of a dinosaur from a cupcake box so we decided to imitate it. As you may know, pastillas also known as pastillas de leche or pastiyema is a milk-based confectionery with origins from San Miguel, Bulacan, Philippines. The authentic recipe will require the use of carabao's ( water buffalo) milk and needs cooking as well. As time goes by, different version of recipes came out and eventually it spread to other provinces and even worldwide now a days.

This recipe that we are going to make requires no cooking which makes it even easy to prepare. All you need to do is to be creative on what design you gonna make. This is very good activity for the kids in replacement for a play dough. Actually the end product replicates the image of a play dough, only that you can able to eat the pastillas once your design was done.

As you can see, we use it as our toppings for our cupcakes, which is one way of designing it. You might probably have another fantastic imagination of doing it and we are very happy to hear from your comments and suggestions. Simply leave your message on our comments section below.

TOOLS:
  • Bowl 2x
  • Spoons
  • Circle cutter
  • Chopping board or clean work top
  • Rolling pin
  • Cake tools

INGREDIENTS:
  • Pre-made cupcake
  • 1 Can Condense milk 240ml
  • 1 Can Powdered milk
  • Food colourings ( green and orange )

INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Get the 2 bowls and pour the condense milk equally in (120 ml ) each bowl.
  2. Then add the food colouring approximately 3 to 4 drops, but if you would like to make it darker you can add as you want. If you don't have green and orange, you can mix 2 colors to achieve the desired colors. Like say for green, you can mix blue and yellow, while for orange you can mix red and yellow.
  3. Once you achieved the right colour, mix them well and add the powdered milk slowly. Stir constantly while adding the powdered milk. If the mixture doesn't stick anymore and turns out like a play dough, stop putting the milk powder. Please note that if you add too  much milk powder it will get hardened especially if it will expose to air for long period of time and we don't want that to happened as it will turned out like a rock.
  4. You can use plastic or vinyl gloves or even your bare hands to mold you pastillas with the design you like. If it sticks to your hand, sprinkle powdered milk on you hands to prevent it from sticking.
  5. You can use cutter and cake tools to make the shape that you want. And put it on the top of the cupcake as a decorations.
  6. And that's it. Your pastillas cupcake is done!
So what can you say? Pretty straight forward isn't it. Try another design and impress you love ones. Enjoy eating and have fun!
